New diazmedia website

Well it’s finally done.  I get so busy working on other people’s websites and design work that I hardly have time to work on my own.  I guess that’s a good thing right? Well anyway, after a few months of little ½ an hour design sessions I finally finished up the new diazmedia.com.  I tried a few new things with this version.  First of all it is a mix of animated flash and html.  I wanted to get our name out there on the search engines so I wasn’t able to build a full flash site like I have done in the past for diazmedia.  I’m also pledging to be more dedicated to this site.  In the past I would build a site and put all the updated content on it, let it sit for about a year… and when it was time to put our more recent work on their I would simply rebuild the site.  I have a bit of A.D.D. when it comes to my own work, so we are trying something new with this site.

I’ve built what we are calling the “pick-a-theme” function which is basically away for people browsing the site to select different background themes that we have made.  Over time we will keep adding more and probably make a few holiday themes that will be set to default during that particular time.  It’s just a fun thing for people browsing our site to play around with while they flip through our portfolio sections.  We are trying to sell something very similar on an up coming project for a large group of artists.  Each artist will design their own header theme that will randomly appear on each page.  The rest of the page will carry out the same theme as to not confuse the visitors, but it’s a great way to get all the artist s involved.

Anyway, each theme has some meaning behind them:

  • The nature based theme represents our need to protect this planet.  It is a beautiful place to live and the only place we have.  No matter what differences we have, there is one thing we all share in common and that is this planet.

  • The Bob Ross theme represents teachers.  I have been blessed to have many influential teachers in my life that have been kind enough to share their knowledge.  I wouldn’t say Bob Ross has taught me personally a lot, but he is a face that many people can identify and he does teach…. Plus I’ve always wanted a fro.

  • The speaker theme represents my love of music.  If I wasn’t doing what I do now I would probably find a career in the music industry.  When I was in high school and college I had a band that I spent a good deal of my time with. Some of my best memories and friends come form that experience.

  • Okay the space gorilla theme doesn’t really represent anything; I was just playing with my 3d design software and came up with this theme.  I’ve always liked the idea of having some sort of animated character acting as the host of a website.  I’ve done that sort of thing on earlier sites and people tend to enjoy it.
